Overview: The NODA: Association for Orientation, Transition, and Retention in Higher Education, Graduate Symposium provided me with the opportunity to participate in curated sessions that provided learning opportunities and networking with professionals in this functional area of student affairs. The symposium was packed with sessions that explored relevant topics on professional development and the transition from graduate student to professional. All the workshops were designed to facilitate self-reflection and development of relevant competencies to support professional advancement through shared stories and innovative knowledge transfer with peers and experienced faculty.
Learning Outcomes: By participating in this event, I was able to develop skills and dispositions that enabled me;
** develop concise understanding on the purpose, function, and professional expectations of orientation, transition, and retention, the programs they serve and ethical standards of the functional area.
** understand aspects of the theoretical and institutional knowledge and content development relevant to student affairs practice.
**develop and grow my professional philosophy and self-awareness based on knowledge-building experiences with peers and intentional conversations facilitated by current professionals.
